Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection is made up of eleven photographs, five of which are of Camp Tuscarora in Wayne County, NC. Other photographs in the collection include two of the Smithfield High students in both the band and the orchestra from the early 1930s. Two photographs are of a plane piloted by a naval officer out of Norfolk, VA. According to eyewitness reports, he had to make an emergency landing in a field near Smithfield High, where a basketball game was being played. The game was paused and the pilot invited inside to answer everyone’s questions. The final two photographs include one of Richard J. Noble’s dog, Rex, and a beached whale that washed up on the shores of Wrightsville Beach.
