Biography

Edward William Pou, Jr., an attorney and Congressman for 34 years, was born September 9, 1863, in Alabama to E. W. and Anna Maria Smith Pou. His father and brother, James Hinton Pou, were also attorneys.

Caroline “Carrie” Haughton Ihrie married Edward William Pou, Jr., on October 18, 1887. She was born March 3, 1863, to Col. Ross R. and Mary Annie Haughton Ihrie of Pittsboro, NC. The couple had four children: Annie Ihrie, George Ross, Edwin S. (who was killed in the war while in France on November 5, 1918), and Margaret A.

Edward died April 1, 1934, in his apartment in Washington, DC, and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Smithfield, NC. Carrie died April 4, 1945, and is also buried in Riverside Cemetery.
