Biographical / Historical

Zebulon Bryan and Lillian Woodall Hill were highly regarded citizens and community leaders in Johnston County, NC. When Mr. Hill died, he was one of Johnston County’s oldest citizens.

Zebulon Bryan Hill was born January 19, 1866, to Zachariah and Virginia Dare Lane Hill. He was a farmer, a steward and trustee of Sanders Chapel Methodist Church, and a former Johnston County road commissioner.

He married Lillian Anna Woodall on February 25, 1900, at Sanders Chapel Methodist Church, which is located on Brogden Road, Johnston County, Smithfield, NC. Lillian was born February 10, 1872, to James Alvin and Elizabeth E. “Bettie” Woodall. The couple had the following children: Millard Daniel (1901-1969); James Zacharia (1902-1979); Nellie Virginia (1903-1991); Myra Kelly (1906-2003); Rena Berniece (1908-1987); Lola Beatrice (1910-1933); Elizabeth Whitley (1912-1983); Zebulon Bryan, Jr. (1914-1999).

Mr. Hill died March 5, 1959, and Mrs. Hill on October 24, 1923. They are both buried in the cemetery at Sanders Chapel Methodist Church.
