This collection may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal state, county or municipal right to privacy laws and regulations. Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual’s private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which Johnston County and the Johnston County Heritage Center assumes no responsibility.
Researchers are advised that the Heritage Center maintains physical stewardship of these collections under varying terms and agreements. Collections that are given to the Heritage Center are done so under a Deed of Gift agreement in which the donor transfers physical ownership rights as well as, “all right and title to…items without limiting conditions to the Heritage Center.” To more fully understand rights restrictions for particular collections please consult with the Archivist or Director.
Biographical / Historical
Justice/Justus Parrish was born around 1806 in Johnston County, NC, to Justice (1745-1808) and Averylla Avacilla “Avy” Fluellen (d. 1835).
He married Mary Margaret “Mary” Stephenson (1806-1880), and they were the parents of: Willis (b. 1827); Rhoda “Rhody” (b. 1828); Mordecai J. (1829-1900); Martha Ann (b. 1832); Pinkney (1836-1904); Nathan (1836-1979); Putney (1839-1899); Tabitha “Bitha” (1840-1910); Paschal (1843-1922); Mary Catharine (1845-1880); Eleanor (b. 1847); Lynn B. (1848-1910).
Justice Parrish died June 2, 1879, in Panther Branch Township, Wake County, NC.
Paschal Parrish was born March 15, 1837, to James “Jim” Parrish (1801-1875) and Elizabeth “Betsy” Jones (1802-1875).
He married Nancy E. Langdon on October 14, 1866, and they were the parents of: Leonidas “Lonnie” (1867-1960); Langdon Ellis (1969-1928); Paschal Burt, Jr. (1871-1935); Elizabeth Cornelia “Bettie” (1873-1927); Mack Ruffin (1875-1947); Parham (b. 1880). Nancy died in 1885.
He married Martha Jane Smith on October 23, 1886, and they were the parents of: Martha Jane “Mattie” (1886-1971). Martha died in 1886.
He married Nancy J. Harper on November 28, 1887, and they were the parents of: Bertie Dixie (1888-1929); Callie Jane (1889-1948); Rhoda (1891-1916); Esther May (b. 1897); Willie Zenary (1902-1975). Nancy died in 1919.
Paschal Parrish died June 30, 1903, and was buried in the Langdon-Parrish Family Cemetery, near McGee’s Crossroads, Johnston County, NC.
