Included note reads, "Richard Furman Strickland, seated on running board, circa 1930s(?) helped organize union in cotton mills across NC (incl. Selma) Granddaughter Dorothy Howell Taylor 3601 N. Hwy 39, Selma, recalls hearing that merchants/restaurant owners in Smithfield refused to sell him anything after he helped organize mills there. (7/29/98)

Mr. Strickland buried orig. at Crochev Cem. later moved to Selma Memorial Gardens b. Oct 9, 1893, Stedman, Cumberland Co. d. Nov 9, 1957, Lynnhaven, VA lived in J. Co. from about 1915 to the early 1950s"
