Biography

Dr. Richard J. Noble was a prominent, highly regarded physician in Selma, Johnston County, NC. He practiced medicine for nearly 55 years and was loved by his patients.

Dr. Noble was born in Louisburg, NC, on October 16, 1853, to Captain Albert M. and Mary Ann Primrose Noble and had one sibling, Dr. Marcus Cicero Stephens Noble. He “read medicine” under the late Dr. Joshua W. Vick of Selma while he attending local schools and graduated from the Kentucky School of Medicine of Louisville, KY, in 1875.

He married Bettie Devarro Moore (June 23, 1858-March 25, 1925) in 1880, and they had the following children: Robert P. (b. December,1881); Albert M. (October 18, 1884-August 31, 1962); Annie S. (Jauary,1888-May 10, 1948); Walter M. (b. August, 1895).

Dr. Noble was a faithful member of the Methodist Church in Selma, as well as the following organizations: Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 84; Shrine Club; Association of Southern Railway and Atlantic Coast Line Railway Surgeons; local and state medical societies; School Board Chairman of Selma Graded School.

Dr. Richard J. Noble died April 27, 1930, and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, Wake County, NC.
