Biography
Dempsey H. Hayes was born December 23, 1852, in Sampson County, NC, to John Henry and Mary (Marley) Cook Hayes.
Hayes married Annie Jane Dorman (1849-1918) in Cumberland County, NC, on May 15, 1875. She was the daughter of Martin and Delanoh Dorman.
Hayes’ second wife was Gertrude L. Jackson (1849-1918). She was the daughter of Charles and Clearsy Jackson. The couple had the following children: Minnie Hayes (b. 1885); Mary F. (b. 1892); Rosa Hayes (b. 1895); John Hayes (b. 1900).
Dempsey H. Hayes died December 23, 1925, in Red Springs, Robeson County, NC, and was buried in Patterson Cemetery.
