Biography

Dr. Will Hardee Lassiter, Jr., was a well-known and highly regarded physician in Johnston County for 42 years. He opened his general practice office in Selma, Johnston County, NC, in 1939 and moved his office to Smithfield in 1952. Dr. Lassiter retired in 1981.

Dr. Lassiter was born August 8, 1914, in Johnston County, to Will Hardee and Mary Alice McGuire Lassiter. He graduated from the following schools: Smithfield High School - 1931; University of North Carolina Chapel Hill - 1936; Medical College of Virginia (post graduate studies) - 1938; Internship at City Hospital, Winston-Salem, NC - 1939.

A member of the U. S. Army Medical Corps from 1942-1946, he received the Bronze Star and achieved the rank of Major.

A devoted member of First Baptist Church, Smithfield, NC, he was also active on the following boards: Selma Town Board; Selma School Board; Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield; Johnston County Council on Aging; Campbell College Trustee.

Dr. Lassiter married Kathleen Anderson on August 10, 1940. Born March 3, 1919, she was the daughter of Thomas Wade and Sadie Renegar Anderson. The couple had four children: Will Hardee Lassiter III, Wade Anderson Lassiter, Kathleen McGuire Lassiter Walton, and Linda Ann Lassiter Whitley.

Dr. Lassiter died on May 10, 1996, and Mrs. Lassiter on February 2, 2005. They are buried in Riverside Cemetery, Smithfield, NC.
