Biography

Clark Alan F. Gerald (Fitzgerald) was born August 20, 1805, to Thomas DeLloyd and Sally Sasser Gerald (Fitzgerald), and was a life-long resident of Johnston County, NC.

On February 26, 1867, he married Sarah “Sallie” Creech (Oct. 22, 1811 - July 10, 1905), and the couple had the following children: Mary (1831-1886); Delana “Laney” (1832-1906); Martha “Nancy” (1838-1921); Caroline (1839-1866); Wiley (1842-1918); Henry (1845-1919); Nancy (1848-1905); Gaston Walter (1850-1927); Floyd Gibson (1852-1921); Thomas Lloyd (1855-1921); Eliza (1856-1934).

Mr. Clark died July 16, 1879, and is buried beside his wife in the Gibson Fitzgerald Family Cemetery, Pine Level, NC.

In early records of Johnston County, “Gerald” was often used as a shortened version of “Fitzgerald,” and there are several different spellings of the name Gerald, such as Gerral, Gerrald, Gerold.
