Lyon, Sadie Massey Aycock, 1917-1998
Biography
Mrs. Sadie (Sarah Elizabeth) Massey Aycock Lyon was a life-long resident of Johnston County, enjoyed growing flowers (especially camellias), and painting portraits and pastels.
She was born June 13, 1917, to Samuel Herbert and Emma Turnage Massey. After attending Smithfield High School, she graduated from Meredith College in the mid-1930s and taught school in Johnston County for more than 30 years. She retired in 1982.
She married Ernest Aycock in 1942 and they had two sons, Samuel Ernest and Thomas L. Aycock. After her first husband’s death, she married Judge W. Pope Lyon in 1981, and he passed away in 1993. An active member of First Presbyterian Church, she was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the N. C. Camellia Society, and the Fayetteville Camellia Club.
Mrs. Lyon died November 29, 1998, and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Smithfield, NC.
