Hood, Thomas A., 1914-2002
Biography
Thomas Acrill Hood grew up in Smithfield, NC, and was the son of Henry (Hal) Cogdell and Pearle Myatt Hood. He was born November 4, 1914, in Smithfield and had one sibling named Lucy Jane Hood. The grandson of Thomas Ruffin and Lucy Ann Woodall Hood, both his grandfather and father were pharmacists.
Hood married Amy King Gwaltney on June 29, 1941 in Craven County, and they had one son named Thomas Hood.
After his divorce, he married Sara Elizabeth Gentry on September 20, 1947, and they had four daughters named Agnes, Elizabeth, Sara Scott “Scottie,” and Perry.
Hood died January 3, 2002 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC, and is buried at Summerville Presbyterian Church, which is located in Lillington, NC.
