Biography

Amelia Myatt Pugh was a lifelong resident of Smithfield, Johnston County, NC, graduated from Smithfield High School, and was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Pugh was born January 31, 1892, in Wake County to Nathaniel and Mary Bettie Woodall Greene. She married Carl Selwyn Pugh, Sr. (May 21, 1886-February 5, 1971) at Centenary Methodist Church, Smithfield, NC, on October 20, 1915. The couple had two sons, Carl Selwyn Pugh, Jr. (December 12, 1918-June 24,1984) and William St. Clair Pugh II (January 27,1922-November 11, 2014).

After 20 years of employment, Mrs. Pugh retired from the N. C. Employment Security Commission. She died August 20, 1989, in Smithfield and is buried beside her husband in Riverside Cemetery.
