Biography

The Smithfield Woman’s Club was organized in 1914, gained NC Federation in 1915, and joined the General Federation in 1935. The mission of the Club was to establish an organization so that the needs of the community might be met, whereby the cultural life might be developed and to unite the women in the combined effort to improve and elevate the status of the community. The first president of the Smithfield Club was Mrs. F. H. Brooks (nee Lelia Parker).

Scope and Contents The Smithfield Woman’s Club photograph collection consists almost completely of photographs. Amongst the few textual materials are newspaper articles. The collection principally records three subject matters. First, the photographs record the various activities that the club was involved in.
